Horton Hears a Who

Horton Hears a Who is one of our very favorite stories.  We have read it so often that we all have it pretty much memorized.  I can stop reading halfway through any line and the boys can finish it.  I'm just sharing this crummy cell phone video of it because it makes me smile.  :)

Anyone Interested in a Meetup in Cinci?

Last year I wrote about going to the Cincinnati Homeschool Convention, and my mixed feelings about it, as a non-religious person.  Well, I had a conversation with a friend of mine yesterday - another non-religious person who is strongly considering homeschooling - and we have decided make a day trip together on Saturday, April 6th.  I just wondered if any of my fellow bloggers were thinking about going and would be interested in a brief meetup while we're there?  I'd love to meet some of my like-minded internet friends in person!  Just wanted to put the idea out there...

Teaching Grandma How To Play Minecraft

My mom had the day off work for President's Day, so she came over to hang out for awhile yesterday morning.  Monkey has been wanting her to play Minecraft with him (since she has a Kindle, too) and they finally got a chance.  Much hilarity ensued as Monkey literally ran circles around her with his avatar.  He patiently showed her how all of the controls worked, and they proceeded to play together in ways that hadn't occurred to me as being possible; follow the leader, tag, hide and seek, etc.  Monkey also proudly showed her all of his creations in his virtual world, which were actually pretty impressive.  They played for the better part of an hour.  There was much laughter and one happy little boy who got some special playtime with Grandma.

Yay! My very reluctant writer got inspiration to do some writing practice!

This post shall be short and sweet.  This past week, a horrific stomach bug rampaged through our family.  During his time on the couch, Monkey felt inspired to share his woe with cousin Christy and friend Paul.  I was just thrilled that he was interested in doing some writing practice.

"Dear Christy, I am very sick.  I puked seven times.  Love, M."

"Dear Paul, I am very very sick.  I puked seven times.  Love, M."

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas: A Ridiculously Overdue Update

Pumpkin carving...

He drew a sketch of what he wanted his pumpkin to look like and I did my best to carve it for him.  He was pleased with the results.  :)

I made this working railroad crossing costumer for Monkey when he was little, and I was so excited to dig it out again for Bug!

Found the shirt, hat, and gloves with glow-in-the-dark bones at Walmart.  I painted the arm bones on the sleeves, and leg bones on black sweatpants, also with glow-in-the-dark paint.
